Florida law requires a certain minimum insurance coverage. The minimum is $10,000 personal injury protection and $10,000 property damage liability. There are additional requirements if you have been in a crash or convicted of some driving offenses.
Florida SR22 (Safety Responsibility) and FR44 Insurance
It is required by law to have automobile insurance if you drive. However, if you have too many points on your driving record, have been caught driving without insurance, or have been convicted of a DUI, you may need to have proof that you have auto insurance in addition to getting insurance. This proof comes in the form of a Florida SR22 or an FR44 form, which shows that you have minimum liability limits for auto insurance. It also confirms that your insurance covers bodily injury liability and property damage liability. Square Link Insurance Group can prepare the SR22 or FR44 for you and file it with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
Florida SR22 Insurance
Once you are required to get the SR22, you need to keep it for three years after a driving conviction of a point suspension, traffic demeanor, or involvement in a crash. Without this form, your license will be suspended until a new SR22 is filed with the DMV. The SR22 does not change the cost of your insurance, however, the reason why you need an SR22 can show an increased risk, which leads to higher insurance rates. Square Link Insurance Group can find the lowest costing SR22 for you. Failure to maintain a SR22 policy for the required length of time will lead you get a SR26, which cancels your SR22 certificate. Without the SR22, your license can be suspended until one is acquired.
Non-Owner and Owner Florida SR22 Insurance
The SR22 form can be required whether or not you own a vehicle.
The Non-Owner Florida SR22 (also known as a Named-Operator Liability Policy) allows you to drive vehicles that you don’t own, and serves as secondary insurance for the vehicle.
The Florida SR22 Owner policy insures your own vehicle, in addition to what the Non-Owner policy covers. It requires one specific vehicle to be listed on your SR22 policy.
Florida FR44 Insurance
The FR44 policy is required for three years after a person has had their license suspended from a DUI (Driving Under the Influence) conviction. This policy proves that the driver has increased their insurance coverage.
